Main Street Warren Sponsors Weeklong

 “Music is Art” Festival

In honor of Warren native David Grohl

Event Commences with Unveiling of “David Grohl Alley”

The Main Street Warren Organization, is excited to announce they will be hosting a weeklong music festival on Courthouse Square in downtown Warren entitled, “Music is Art.” The focus of this festival is to pay tribute to Warren native, and Grammy Award winning artist David Grohl. At the time of Grohl’s birth and during the early years of his life, his parents lived in a home on Perkinswood Avenue on Warren’s eastside. Grohl still has family members that reside in the greater Warren area. The highlight of the festival will be the dedication ceremony of the newly named “David Grohl Alley,” that will take place at the finale of the festival on Saturday August 1st at 4pm. Grohl has been invited to attend the dedication where the alley sign bearing his name will be unveiled.

The “Music is Art” festival, which is free to the public, will kick off Sunday, July 26th, and   run through the dedication ceremony. Each day the festival will feature a different genre of music including gospel, jazz, country, blues, and rock. The festival will feature over 200 local artists comprised of choirs, bands, soloists, duos and instrumentalists. For a complete listing of acts and their performance times, as well as additional information regarding the event log onto www.mainstreetwarren.org, or contact Main Street Warren Promotion Chairperson Jennifer Campbell at 330.219.9819.

Main Street Warren has been working in conjunction with The Trumbull Art Gallery to make “David Grohl Alley” itself a true “work of art.” The alley, located between the downtown parking deck and the buildings that face East Market Street, will be painted to reflect the theme of the festival, “Music is Art.” Several local artists are also painting individual murals that will be hung in the alley “gallery style” to pay tribute to Grohl’s musical career.

Grohl, was a member of the nineties grunge band Nirvana, and following the passing of  Kurt Cobain in 1994, he formed and became the front man for the wildly popular band The Foo Fighters. In addition to leading the Foo Fighters, Grohl has been involved in several other musical projects including Queens of the Stone Age, the heavy metal band Probot, and has performed session work with Killing Joke, Tenancious D, Nine Inch Nails, and most recently, The Prodigy. Earlier this year he played drums for Sir Paul McCartney at The Grammy Awards. He has achieved worldwide acclaim in the industry as a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, playing the drums, guitar, piano and bass.
